Jorge Méndez Blake presenta por primera vez Haiku para estacionamiento (LTD) / Haiku for Parking Lot (LTD), 2026. La escultura combina un auto usado con una pila de libros de relacionados con la forma poética japonesa del haiku, donde los libros reemplazan una de las llantas delanteras del vehículo. Al sustituir un componente mecánico funcional por literatura, Méndez Blake inmoviliza el auto: su peso es sostenido por la poesía, lo que transforma los libros de portadores de lenguaje a un elemento físico y estructural de la obra. La escultura resuena con el uso que Jorge Eielson hace del quipu, en el que un antiguo sistema de registro y transmisión de información se aleja de su función original y se reconfigura como un lenguaje estético y material. Ambos artistas consideran los sistemas de escritura y conocimiento no solo como vehículos de significado, sino como formas que pueden reorganizarse materialmente, abstraerse y hacerse visibles. -- Jorge Méndez Blake presents Haiku for Parking Lot (LTD), 2026 for the first time. The sculpture combines a used car with a stack of books related to the Japanese poetic form of haiku, with the books replacing one of the vehicle’s front tires. By substituting a functional mechanical component with literature, Méndez Blake immobilizes the car: its weight is supported by poetry, transforming the books from carriers of language into a physical and structural element of the work. The sculpture resonates with Jorge Eielson’s use of the quipu, in which an ancient system for recording and transmitting information is detached from its original function and reconfigured as an aesthetic and material language. Both artists consider systems of writing and knowledge not merely as vehicles for meaning, but as forms that can be materially reorganized, abstracted, and made visible.
