Artwork Description

The collages in the Vortex series (2019) are based on William Blake's work The Circle of Lust (1824–27). Following in the footsteps of Kurt Schwitters, Smith creates this series of collages from fragments, color schemes, and superimpositions taken from everyday prints and from still images of the video that gives name to the project, offering us an alternative version of Blake's symbolist space.
